Pistachio Macaron Recipe

I just thought I would share one of my macaron recipes from my new app.  It's for pistachio macarons and they are delicious!  I hope you give them a try and let me know how they turn out.
If you would like more macaron recipes, here is a link to get my macaron app on iTunes.

1/2 cup almond flour
3 tablespoons powdered pistachios
3/4 cup powdered sugar
egg whites from 2 eggs, room temperature
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons berry sugar
green food coloring

1.In preparation for making macarons, you must separate the eggs (keeping only the egg whites) and let them rest in the refridgerator over night, then  take the eggs out and let them reach room temperature just before you whip them.
2. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
3. Grind enough pistachios in a coffee grinder to yield 2 tablespoons once sifted.  Sift powdered sugar pistachio powder and almond flour into a large bowl (discard any large pieces).
4. In an electric mixer, beat egg whites and salt until soft peaks begin to form.
Then add berry sugar and continue to beat on high until the eggs are very stiff. Add food coloring and mix well.
5. Pour the beaten egg white mixture into the powdered mixture and fold with a spatula until the mixture becomes a thick ribbony batter.
6. Fit a piping bag with a #10 tip and fill with batter.  Pipe 1 1/2” rounds onto your baking sheet spacing each macaron 1” apart. You can simplify this by making a template to slide under the parchment paper as a guide.
Bake for approximately 10 - 12 minutes at 290 ° F.
Once cooled, fill with pistachio ganache (go back to the index for the recipe).

1/2 cup whipping cream
4 oz white chocolate, finely chopped
2 tablespoons pistachio paste
green food coloring

1.  Place chocolate in a glass bowl and melt over a pot of simmering water stirring with a small spatula.
2. Pour whipping cream into the melted chocolate and stir until smooth.
3. Add pistachio paste and stir until mixed well.
4. Remove from heat and place in the refridgerator until chilled.

Fresh Garden Tomatoes

I do not have a green thumb. But, this summer I decided to have one tomato plant on my patio.  They are really easy to grow and it has already produced 20 or so tomatoes!  They make the best tomato and cheese sandwiches.

Summer Earl Grey

I love Earl Grey tea.  I love Earl Grey tea lattes, iced Earl Grey tea and I especially love hot Earl Grey served in beautiful cups. Shown is hot Earl Grey served in some Moroccan tea glasses my sisters bought for me years ago.  I think a tiny glass of sugary hot tea is the perfect treat on a warm summer afternoon.
Hope you have a nice weekend!

Vintage French Pop!

I love pretty much anything French.  I especially like French music.  I picked this album up on a whim and was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it.  Usually impulse music buys end badly for me, but this one is a winner!

Bottega Louie

I recently returned from a trip to California and thought I would share a few pictures of an amazing restaraunt in Los Angeles. If you are ever in L.A. and you want to experience a little bit of Paris...I highly recommend that you visit Botegga Louie. It is possibly the prettiest eatery in North America!

As we didn't have a reservation, we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. I have to admit, it was the shortest 15 minutes ever...I would have gladly waited an hour! There was so much to explore in every corner.

Glass display cases brimming with macarons and tarts...

chocolate bars wrapped in pastel papers lined up like books on shelves...

and pretty jewel boxes filled with hand made truffles curated to delight and tempt the senses.
Even the most evangelical sugar abstainer couldn't resist the charms of this place!
Bottega Louie is a real treat.

Hammock Time!

Here is a project idea that would suit most backyards or balconies. I have always wanted to have a hammock but, most of the ones I've seen have been rather plain. This one gives me an idea for using really beautiful heavy chenille fabric with cotton trim. For details on how this one was made visit Fresh Home Ideas here. Have a great weekend!

Yellow & Gray

I have been in love with this shade of yellow for a few years now and I really like how nicely it plays off of the color gray. Gray is a great neutral base for a lot of colors but, nothing beats mustard yellow!

Color Blocking Your Bookcase!

It has been a while since I last posted here so I thought I would share some projects I have been working on. Here is one involving a couple of bookcases.
I recently decided to give my bookcases a little sprucing up. I experimented with some color blocking and am quite pleased with the results.  I really like how the shelves are filled with books and not much else (after all they are bookshelves). And best of all, it is really the easiest way to style a bookcase.

Fancy Ham & Cheese

Well, another year has left us and I am eager to get started on the one ahead!   It is a slow start but I thought I would kick things off with a very simple sandwich idea.

Sometimes the simplest things turn out to be the best and this sandwich is a perfect example.

2 slices of rustic bakery style bread
2-3 slices of thinly sliced ham
1 slice Havarti cheese
1 pinch dry thyme
salt and pepper to taste
olive oil

1. Drizzle each slice of bread with olive oil.
2. Sprinkle each half with the spices.
3. Top one slice of bread with ham and cheese and cover with the other slice.
4. Cook in a panini grill or on a non stick pan until bread is golden and cheese has melted.

Happy New Year!
